Beach Day in Kona

Thursday, August 17, 2006 –

Today we decided to have a free day. I went out to our beach on the Kona Coast to lay in a hammock between two coconut trees for a while. Then, I lounged on the beach for a little tan. Afterwards, Jeff and I snorkeled off the beach. We had lunch at an outdoor terrace café. Dad came out to join us after a while. Then we went to the pool and enjoyed the waterslide and volcanic rock fountain.

That evening, we went down to Kailua Kona and explored the town. It is best known as the finish and start area of the Ironman World Championships. Every October, athletes are greeted by one of the most iconic welcomes in sport: “insert your name, you are an Ironman!”

Being from Alabama, it is somewhat ironic that I ate at my first Bubba Gump restaurant in Kona. It was kind of touristy and overpriced like Hard Rock, but the seafood and shrimp were good.

Overall, it was a nice and relaxing day!
